FIDER Accredited Interior Design Programs The Foundation for Interior Design Education Research (FIDER) is an international not-for-profit organization that accredits interior design programs at institutions of higher learning in the United States and Canada. According to its mission statement, "FIDER promotes excellence in interior design education through research and the accreditation of academic programs which prepare interior designers to create interior environments for improving the quality of human experience."
FIDER was founded in 1970 by a coalition of interior design professional organizations. That same strong philosophical and financial support continues today. It is recognized as a reliable authority on interior design education by the United States Department of Education and the Commission on Recognition of Postsecondary Accreditation (CORPA).
For more information on FIDER and its accreditation process, contact the organization at: 60 Monroe Center N.W., Ste. 300, Grand Rapids, MI 49503-2920; (616) 458-0400; fax: (616) 458-0460.
- FIDER Professional Level standards and guidelines are revised from the 1989 First Professional Degree Level standards and guidelines. The revisions were effective Fall 1995. FIDER Professional Level Programs provide academic preparation for the professional interior designer.
- FIDER Pre-professional Assistant Level standards and guidelines were effective September 1989. FIDER Pre-professional Assistant Level Programs prepare students for positions as design assistants, merchandisers, delineators, etc. This education is generally considered a terminal level not leading to practice as a professional interior designer.
- FIDER Baccalaureate Program degree level denotes programs reviewed under FIDER standards and guidelines prior to 1989 and 1995 revisions. It remains effective for programs not yet reviewed under revised standards and guidelines. FIDER Baccalaureate Programs provide academic preparation for the professional interior designer.
