We can find the first indications in history about using interior design in more than 2000 years ago, as then the ancient Romans had developed highly sophisticated and complex architectural and decorative art forms that were commonly used for the decoration of private homes of the wealthiest and most respectful citizens, but also public houses. Already then home decorations showed the values of society, love of comfort and wealth and philosophy. After the fall of the Roman Empire the development of different artistic forms declined, but besides building religious a new impetus to building public and private houses was given in the 1100s with the rise of city states.  A lot of castles for noble families where build alongside with town halls and churches, the inhabitants of those castles where the sponsors of decorative art forms in their homes. Some stagnation was in the late 1700s and early 1800s, connected to declining fortunes both politically, commercially and culturally, the late 1800s saw a new prosperous flow of interest in decorative art forms as applied to home decoration.

From then on, home decoration and paying attention to interior design has grown. The styles have changes, but the need and want to have their home looking good still remains in the hearts of all people.
